Our ocean reefs are in trouble, but we want to do our part to make a difference. As part of Virgin Voyages’ commitment to protecting our seas, we are proud to announce Stream2Sea as our preferred partner for reef-safe sunscreen.
This eco-conscious skincare company, made up of cosmetic chemists and environmentalists, is driven to foster positive change for our oceans. A first for the cruise industry, this partnership places us alongside other travel destinations like Hawaii and Key West, in joining a movement committing to only reef-safe sunscreens.
“There are so many factors that we, as individuals, don’t have easy control over. Sunscreen is not one of them,” said Autumn Blum, Ceo of Stream2Sea. “Yet, with a little effort and a little knowledge, we can easily eliminate this significant threat to our reefs.”
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, 58% of the world’s coral reefs are at great risk due to human threats like fishing and coastal development.
“While some brands in the market today claim to be reef-safe and ocean-friendly, many contain ingredients that are known to harm the fragile ecosystems and marine life,” said Stream2Sea’s Autumn Blum. That’s not the case with Stream2Sea, which is reef-safe, meaning it doesn’t contain oxybenzone or other harmful ingredients. “Stream2Sea consciously chooses all ingredients not only to be safer for our waters, but safer for you as well.” adds Blum. Oh, and did we mention the packaging is eco-friendly and sustainable too? Total win-win.
At Virgin Voyages, we love teaming up with like-minded partners like Stream2Sea, who are working to secure a healthy future for our oceans. They join us alongside our other partners like Ocean Unite to protect 30% of the world's oceans by 2030.
We are excited that Stream2Sea will be for sale on board and available at The Beach Club at Bimini. It's all part of our 'Vitamin Sea' approach to well-being for our Sailors, Crew, and our oceans. We realize that the ocean is our gracious host when we sail, so we strive to use sustainable products to keep it healthy. Minimizing our impact and creating strong initiatives for ocean health is more than a responsibility; it's part of the way we sail at Virgin Voyages.
