They've been on the bow of your ship since the day you boarded. You've probably taken a photo with them. They're the ones putting a little magic into every voyage. But you've never actually known them — until now.
Each of our four Lady Ships carries her own mermaid, hand-designed by a different artist, with a personality all their own from day one. But they're not just artwork. They're part of the mythology that's followed us to sea since the beginning — an expression of who each ship is, before you ever set foot on it.
So this year, we're finally bringing their backstories to the surface.
Mermaid Origins is a new five-film series made in partnership with Native Foreign — one hero documentary exploring the larger story, and four individual films, each dedicated to a single mermaid: Scarlet, Valiant, Resilient and Brilliant.
MEET THE MERMAIDS
Here's a sneak peek of each one.
SCARLET
Our red-haired lady. Before all the others, the mother of the mystic seas created her. Underneath her love for a peaceful view and a quiet swim is a fierce, quiet strength. Her story is about learning that courage isn't the absence of fear — it's choosing to heal others before she could heal herself, and finally chasing her own dreams.
VALIANT
Our super-hero lady. Valiant didn't learn to tame lions. She is the lion. Her story is about trusting her own voice, becoming one with nature, and living by instinct rather than waiting to be told what's next. Her job: get you off your seat and out to play.
RESILIENT
Our go-getter lady. When she was a young girl, she found a piece of broken glass — and turned it into something beautiful. That's the whole story in one image: she gets things done, knows how to cheer you up, weathers every storm life throws at her, and is still first up to greet the sunrise (even after a very good night before).
BRILLIANT
Our new lady. She was a warrior, following her own light to help preserve the world as we know it and guard her sisters across galaxies. Her story is proof that the journey matters as much as the destination.
A new team of artists brought each mermaid’s backstory to life using Magnific’s AI tools, with creative direction from Native Foreign. The artists guided every creative decision, using AI to explore their ideas and bring their vision to the screen.
You’ll meet our mermaids over the coming weeks, right here on the blog, in Sailor Scoop before your voyage, and on your cabin tablet once you’re on board.
Because once you know her story, she’s not just a mermaid on the bow anymore.
Meet the mermaids. Watch their stories.
