Current Situation
Local port authorities have advised that airspace over Puerto Rico is temporarily closed for all U.S. airlines due to military activity in Venezuela. This is impacting flights operated by U.S. airlines flying into and out of San Juan. This situation is not related to any issue within Puerto Rico or at the airport itself.
Following a press conference held by airport management, officials confirmed that, per a Federal Aviation Administration notification, San Juan airspace is expected to remain closed until at least 1:00 a.m. on January 4, with timing subject to further evaluation.
Guidance for Affected Travelers
Airport Procedures:
- All travelers should proceed to the airport as scheduled
- Check in directly with your airline for the most up-to-date information on your specific flight
- Your airline is best positioned to share available options and need to account for all passengers
Travelers who are stranded on the island can also seek support through the Puerto Rico Tourism Company Aid Center, which is assisting guests with hotel accommodations, transportation and coordination with airlines.
Aid Center Phone: 1-800-981-7575
The Tourism Company is working closely with the following hotels to support impacted travelers:
- Royal Sonesta
- Fairmont El San Juan
- Aloft at Distrito T-Mobile
- Puerto Rico Convention Center at Distrito T-Mobile
Officials have also confirmed that TSA operations at Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport remain open, and tourism representatives are currently providing assistance onsite at the airport.
