Virgin Voyages is celebrating World Oceans Day.

We’re honoring the world’s oceans with a permanent new art installation made entirely of ocean plastics.

World Ocean Day Virgin Voyages

Get excited for World Oceans Day

At Virgin Voyages every day is World Oceans Day, since without our precious bodies of vast blue water, none of our epic voyages would be possible. That’s why sustainability is at the heart of our company ethos, with continued efforts to minimize carbon, energy, waste, and ocean pollution onboard, as well as advancing ocean education. But on June 8th, we’re taking a moment to pay special attention to our oceans in honor of World Oceans Day. World Oceans Day is all about preserving marine ecosystems and limiting ocean waste by encouraging collective action. On this day, communities all around the world come together in a variety of events designed to help preserve a healthy ocean and its ecosystem, from cleaning up beaches to taking part in educational talks and lectures. We’re paying homage to the oceans we call home with a new permanent art installation aboard our Valiant Lady ship, raising awareness about marine pollution.

Putting plastic in its place

When you take one of our voyages aboard Valiant Lady, you’ll be treated to a brand new art installation. Created in collaboration with Oceanic Global and Corona, this work of art is crafted entirely from ocean plastics, and is designed to raise awareness about marine pollution and inspire action for a cleaner, healthier ocean. There will also be a QR code linking to the Oceanic Global story and pledges. And it’s not just there for World Oceans Day, either. The installation is permanent, so you’ll be able to check it out no matter when you decide to cruise.

Virgin’s sustainability mission

For us, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword we pull out of storage once a year on Earth Day and World Oceans Day. It’s part of the philosophy that permeates every aspect of the Virgin Voyages mission. Our sustainability vision is meant to secure a healthy future for our oceans. That’s why we not only make continuous improvements to minimize our carbon, energy, waste and water footprint onboard, but we also partner with nonprofit organizations to advance ocean education and protection for future generations. From pioneering new clean energy technology onboard and sustainable tech (like LED lighting and room sensors), to banning single-use plastics and eliminating the food waste of buffets, we’re doing more than just limiting how much plastic is in the ocean. We’re trying to create an epic sea change for all through our comprehensive sustainability measures.
