Virgin Voyages' guide to Ísafjörður, Iceland
Surrounded by dramatic mountain landscapes just below the Arctic Circle lies one of Iceland’s most secluded and dazzling places – Ísafjörður.
Foggy Fjords & Celestial Skies
Set on an arching peninsula deep within one of Iceland’s famous fjords, Ísafjörður is a charming patchwork of 18th-century timber and tin-clad buildings, towering peaks, and swelling Arctic waters. While its remoteness in Iceland’s Westfjords region provides this picturesque town with unlimited outdoor adventure opportunities, seemingly endless wilderness and hauntingly beautiful scenery at every turn, its unexpectedly vast selection of cafes and museums have made it surprisingly cosmopolitan.

Iceland’s Arctic Playground
Westfjord’s waterfalls, Icelandic traditions & Viking views.
Dynjandi Waterfall & Suðureyri Village Tour
Visit one of the main attractions of the area, Dynjandi waterfall, often referred to as the Jewel of the Westfjords. Soak up the tranquility of the area before a scenic drive to the sustainable village of Suðureyri. There you'll get acquainted with life at the edge of the Arctic Circle and learn how the town processes the seafood they catch. Plus, enjoy tasting some of the local fish products!

Fjords, Seals & Turf Tales
Travel through the finger fjords of Isafjardardjup! Start with a stop on top of a mountain that gives 360° view over the fjords and mountains in the area. Spot seals in their natural habitat before visiting a Turf Farm where we'll learn how the Icelanders used to live in the 1900's, churn fresh cream into butter, and then taste it on traditional Icelandic flatbread. You'll enjoy it with refreshments, waffles, and homemade jam before enjoying a scenic ride back to Isafjordur.

Hiking Like a Viking
A fun exploration of nature and culture, this outing first takes you on a scenic hike up Sandafell mountain where you can marvel at views of the fjords below. Unwind afterwards at the Skalinn Viking Center with a stein of local beer and the chance to dress up as a viking in authentic clothing. You'll also have the opportunity to bake bread over a fire and enjoy it, just as the vikings once did. Cheers to that!
