Virgin Voyages' guide to Nice (Villefranche), France

Nice doesn’t ask for a plan — it sets one. Stone underfoot. The Mediterranean, always there — glinting, grounding, pulling you forward. You walk. You pause. You follow what feels right. And somewhere between the sea and the street, it all comes together.

NICE

Riviera Rhythm. Right on Time.

Nice opens in layers.

Light first — soft, golden — stretching across the curve of the bay. Water catches it, throws it back. Everything feels lit from within like the day’s already decided to be good.

Now the shoreline. Not sand — stone. Smooth. Sun-warmed. Shaped by time.

Shifting under each step. Even the sound is different. Waves meeting the shore steady, clean, unmistakable.

From the port, the city unfolds without edges. Old Nice pulls you in. Streets narrow. Colors deepen. Shutters open wide.

Cours Saleya, next. Flowers stacked high. Fruit laid out in full color. Citrus in the air. Herbs. Something just baked. You slow down without meaning to.

Out along the Promenade, everything opens again. Sea on one side. Palms, façades, and passing moments on the other. Walkers. Runners. A bike gliding past. A pause at the railing.

Then — the shift. Hills rising behind the city. Vineyards tucked into the landscape. The coastline bending toward Monaco. Villages above it all — quiet, watchful.

Back near the port, the day gathers itself. Plates arrive. Glasses catch the light. The pace settles into something easy. Entirely your own.

Nice isn’t a checklist. It’s a rhythm. Fall into it.

DISCOVER MORE SHORE THINGS

The coastline drifts. The curve of the bay. The shimmer of the Mediterranean. You start replaying it in moments.

A quiet walk from the port. No plan — just movement. Old Nice opening around you — color, texture, a table waiting in the shade. Espresso first. Then something chilled.

Then time — stretching just enough. Flowers. Fruit. Citrus in the air. And the flavors stay with you, too.

A plate set down — simple, exact. Olive oil catching the light. Seafood pulled straight from the coast. A bite — bright, briny — lingering just long enough. A glass poured to match it. Then another.

Drive along the coastline — cliffs, curves, the sea always right there. Monaco in flashes — stone, speed, something sharper underneath. And higher still — Villages above the coastline. Stone streets. Quiet corners. Views that hold you a little longer than expected.

Finally — the climb into the hills. A vineyard above it all. Rows of green. The coastline laid out below. Wine poured slowly. A table set simply. A view that gives everything without asking.

And in between — the details hold. Light moving across façades. Water meeting stone. A street that turned… then opened… then stayed with you.

Nice reveals itself that way. Layer by layer. Moment by moment. And even as the shoreline fades — the experiences never do.
